A 17-year-old Soweto girl who was filmed being gang-raped by a group of boys has been found in Johannesburg. The girl was reported missing by her mother three weeks ago and was found in a man's house in Braamfischerville on Wednesday. AP reported that the girl apparently has the mental capacity of a 5-year-old. The gang rape was captured on a 10-minute cell phone video which has gone viral.
It is believed the girl was abducted and kept as sex slave. Seven boys, between the ages of 14 and 20, were arrested last week. It is unclear whether she was drugged in the video. Meanwhile, South Africans have taken to social networks to express their outrage at the incident.
The hash tag #rape video is currently the top trending topic on Twitter in South Africa. There is a graphic cell phone video that explicitly shows them taking turns on the girl, Eyewitness News reports. During the rape, the boys joke around and encourage each other. This week Police are searching for a Dobsonville priest who allegedly raped a 10-year-old girl during an all-night prayer vigil. Warrant Officer Kay Makhubela said the rape had taken place on April 14 but that girl only told her sister about it yesterday. “The girl had attended a prayer meeting with her parents and the priest took her to another room to pray for her but instead raped her. She did not tell her parents immediately and only told her sister yesterday,” Makhubela said. This is a very sad story,how could one just decide to rape a pesonal who is mentally unfit? What is our world coming into?

ReplyDeleteI really feel digusted and shamed by these boys who have shamed their parents and have not shown no morals nor value. This is a disturbing story and I feel for the girls sake we should just stop talking about this issue, which is impossible for the media to do so but I believe this story should just be stopped and the girls family to be respected enough to give them their privacy. Rape is seen as an activity now in South Africa, which is just sad and disturbing.

ReplyDeleteI believe our generation will have to decide whether we do something or whether we keep talking about how much of a shame it is that another persons child was raped or murderd or molested, there is a saying that goes it takes a village to raise a child if our children are not raised proparly then South African's are not doing their duty.
