Africa's polygamous President Jacob Zuma, 70,
married for the sixth time, taking his long-time girlfriend Bongi Ngema as his
newest bride and fourth current wife in a private ceremony at his rural home.
Ngema, an activist and former information technology worker, is well known in
South Africa and has already accompanied the president on foreign visits. The
ceremony raised few eyebrows in a country where polygamy is legal and an
integral part of Zuma's Zulu culture. The two had a traditional Zulu wedding
and "the bride and groom later participated in the traditional competitive
celebratory dance." the presidency said in a statement. Zuma has 21
children, including a seven-year-old son with Ngema.

The president is also
married to Sizakele Zuma, Nompumelelo Ntuli-Zuma and Tobeka Madiba-Zuma. They
all attended the ceremony. His marriage to Home Affairs Minister Nkosazana
Dlamini-Zuma ended in divorce. Another wife Kate Mantsho-Zuma committed suicide
in 2000.There is no official position of First Lady in South Africa. The
presidency said none of the wives had a constitutional role or received any
state funds. The president practices the Zulu tradition, which allows
polygamy. While legal in South Africa, polygamy is losing popularity with the
younger generation in the continent, where it is still practiced in some
cultures. The government did not pay for the wedding festivities nor does it
pay for the four spouses' expenses unless related to state duties, the
spokesman said.Read more: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2133220/Polygamist-South-African-president-Jacob-Zuma-marries-Gloria-Ngema-wives-look-on.html#ixzz1sqkkvkvS
All
four will now be treated as first ladies and will share Mr Zuma's spousal
duties between them.Last week South Africa's Sunday Times newspaper reported
that the president's Nkandla home had been renovated under a
multi-million-pound building project which saw the construction of six
double-story thatched huts. The publication claimed that each of the separate
buildings was connected to Mr Zuma's own house by an underground tunnel, allowing
him easy access to his spouses.Read more:

sometimes i find it very difficult to understand why is a man marring more than one wife? and i finaly told my self that maybe it is south african cultutre promoted by our president... a leader lead by example ...they said.
ReplyDeleteI trully dont understand why our president is doing this marring so much wivess, what are we learning from him as a president?
ReplyDeletewow really... I never knew about the whole tunnel thing, but now I know. If it is factual it's hilarious. I feel like other countries 'look at us and think but why did we vote for this man' well I don't blame them at all. What is my baby brother supposed to learn from this? or how do I explain to him that he has to be faithful to one partner meanwhile our president, someone we have to show respect does this? Contradiction I tell you!
ReplyDeleteI think the government implemented the e-tolling systems to help support the president and his wives with our money i mean really is it necessary to have four wives
