Speeding Putco bus killed a couple at their home

Residents were awakened by two loud bangs of a tragic Putco bus accident, which left  44 passengers injured  in the crash and were taken to hospital  including the deaths of Michael, 44, and Mathabiso Motswiri, 33 at 2782 Braam-fischerville Phase 2 in Soweto, Gauteng  Province. Gauteng Traffic Department spokesman Obed Sibasa said the bus was going at such high speed that skid marks extended for 50m from the stop street to the house. Police spokesman Captain Mpande Khoza said negligent and reckless driving case would be opened, but added that further investigations would made to determine the cause of the crash.                                                                                                                                                                                                          Government and Putco offered to help the victims' families rebuild the house, pay for the funerals and support their children

Putco made a pledge to rebuild and furnish the damaged house one of its buses crashed in Soweto leaving two people dead. The transport department said the Road Accident Fund would cover the burial costs of the couple killed. The two couple were killed on Tuesday morning when a bus crashed into the bedroom of their house in Dobsonville. The driver lost control of the bus and hit a car before crashing into the house and the driver has been working with Putco for 30 years and has a perfect employment record, the bus driver is in hospital and he is one of those who remained under medical supervision. The mother of a 33 year old Mathabiso complained saying funeral help won’t bring her child back, as she used to rely on her daughter financially, she said that she has asthma, arthritis and high blood  pressure , who will help me now that she is gone. The minister of Transport Sibusiso Ndebele said “I’m just baffled at the way it happened because there’s a stop sign there so the bus should have been slower. “We are all used to accidents. But when you are asleep in your house and then a bus drives through, it’s unspeakable… We just want to show our humanness.   Ndebele said. “As government, we really want to express our sympathy; it did little to appease the family. The Minister of Transport described the accident as a tragedy, he said the accident is devastating for them and it is a terrible beginning to Easter holidays.” Ndebele said the family will receive help from both the local and national government. Meanwhile, Putco said preliminary investigations showed the bus was in perfect condition. Transport Minister has once again called on road users to exercise extra caution on the country's roads, as traffic volumes are expected to increase ahead of the Easter holidays. He emphasized that they will focus on driver and vehicle fitness, wearing of seatbelts, drinking and driving, fatigue and pedestrian safety.

  1. this is a very sad story but the driver should be replaced as he did not stop at the stopping sign thats the reason he bumped into the house ,he is was not following the road signs so i think he should be suspened or replaced.

  2. it is a very story indeed but the driver however was not at fault, since they stated that he has been working for putco for about 30 years and such incident has never happened but the lady who was driving a chervlotte was the one who actually made the bus driver lose control as he was trying to overtake that lady only to lead the bus in such tragedy.

  5. I must say this was a tragedy on the real, I mean in your very own home, where you feel safe at all times and such happens? Devastating. I could also be baffled as the minister of transport. I am still shocked even to this very day. May their souls rest in peace.
