IS THE ANC MAKING ANY DIFFERENCE?

SERVICE DELIVERY HAS FAILED
There has been challenges and belief in South Africa that the ANC government has failed todeliver basic services since 1994. A pledge from the government has been made that if people voted for ANC, they will serve people, try by all means to fight crime and corruption   and build the nation by empowering it yet it has been proven that informal settlements have now reached their highest levels ever and significant demands still need to be met. So many communities have been protesting against poor service delivery, unemployment  and corruption, failure to combat high levels of crime, mismanagement and continue to characterise how badly they are being treated.
The saddest thing is that people have not heard a response from counsellors and the ANC is deploying them by not being loyal to them, full filling their promises and not committing themselves to people.A resident from Orange farm said "Our government is failing to deliver basic services because of the strategy it uses. If provincial government has proper monitoring and evaluation systems in place, there wouldn’t be any service delivery protests in my area. There has always been an issue of mismanagement of funds, the budget allocated is finished but no work is done. The people in the government are corrupt, that is why they give tenders to people without experience, e.g. inexperienced building contractors are given tenders to build RDP houses, they build houses which are not of good quality so that they can have more money in their pockets"

                                                                                                               Consequences for South Africans are:

  • People are still living in shacks
  • Crime rate is high in most communities
  • Corruption has given its elf power and corruption is far from being a victimless crime, its victims are the thousands of people who need the state to deliver much needed services.
  • Health facilities are limited
  • Public transport is a desire for most people
  • Teenage pregnancy, alcohol abuse and drugs are a huge problem we are facing

 The government should ensure that:

  •  appropriate disciplinary action must be taken against those guilty of corruption
  • Fighting nepotism
There should not be any favouritism and special treatment because there are people with skills who are in need of the job
  • Delivering Services to the people by involving communities in identifying their needs on crime preventions.
  • access to water and sanitation
  • provision of electricity
  • paying special attention to rural facilities
